English Channel attempt in July

G'day,
To those of you I know, I've set this up to document some of the stuff you might like to keep track of as I attempt to swim the English Channel in July this year (2011). To all others - welcome to my mid life crisis.
My tide window is 7th July to 18th July.
Pop back from time to time and come July I hope we can keep you up to date during the swim. On the right is a link to my Twitter feed which we expect to be able to update during the swim. If you also sign up to Twitter it's probably the best way to send messages on the big day. I'd sure love to get a few!
I will also post some blogs in the lead up to keep you all informed on likely swim day and time.
I've trained hard and met some fantastic people on the journey - I cant believe how generous everyone has been with time, advice and support - my plan is to make you all proud.
Most of all thanks to Caren (I adore you), T and Lucy for putting up with a mostly absent husband and father for the last year. Big expensive make up holiday in France and Spain coming soon. Lucky I know how to save on the ferry ticket!

Thanks everyone, AV.

Weather set to improve

After 8 nights in Dover town the weather is set to improve.  I understand the pilot is taking the first swimmer tomorrow morning which puts me in for Monday morning.  He thinks about 5am which is 2pm Monday in Melbourne. However, it is apparently a short window. Fingers crossed.

I am all set, have bought all the supplies, Caren, Fraser (mate from NZ) and Ollie (gun swimming mate from Melbourne now back living in UK) will be on the boat. Have swam each day in the harbour.  Just enough to stay loose and fit.

Best way to keep track is via the twitter feed on this blog (on the right down a bit) or on twitter direct if you're signed up.  Caren will have my Australian mobile for texts or you can text her on her new uk mobile number +44 7411713399 but it will be hard to respond, she'll be pretty busy doing feeds, photos and tweeting.  I reckon she has a tougher job than me.

See blog post below for details on how to watch the boat if you're so inclined.

Have been busy becoming very familiar with Dover but have also checked out Deal, Sandwich (gorgeous and getting ready for the British Open which starts next week), Folkestone and Rye.  Have found a great family in Sandwich to look after the girls during the swim.  A contact thru the beach crew here in Dover.  Meeting all the swimmers has been a real joy of this experience.

Matilda and Lucy braved a dip in the Dover harbour today...all three of us in our Melbourne Vicentre gear. I was the proud Dad - not sure Caren can put up with another two potential Channel swimmers in the family:)
